"Your vehicles are ever restless. Every vibration in the vehicle produces a corresponding change in consciousness. Is there any way to check these vibrations, to study the vehicle, so that consciousness may be still? One method is the repeating of a mantra. A mantra is a mechanical way of checking vibration. Instead of using the powers of the will and of imagination, you save these for other purposes, and use the mechanical resource of a mantra." -- ANNIE BESANT

The Potency of Thoughts and Their All Pervading Nature PDF Print E-mail
Pujya Dr. RK - Thought

The standard of thinking, where people live in large numbers, having similar thought patterns develops a special environment. The power of crowds is itself unique. Every one is aware of the strength of united efforts.

To see the miracles of concentrated effect of people who have similar nature it is enough to observe keenly. At the burial grounds the atmosphere is that of fear, which we all know. Day in and day out, corpses are continuously burnt there. The persons who accompany are filled with feelings of separation, and sorrow. Even when return, after finishing the rituals the sorrowful feelings continue to show their effects around that area. When this process continues for a long time, at the same place, the landscape, the trees and shrubs that grow there are charged with this kind of negative sorrowful, anguish filled thoughts. When a man enters such an atmosphere he succumbs to those vibrations or thoughts and is afraid. In slaughter houses the tension, the shrieks of agony and vibrations of writhing in pain of the slaughtered animals pervade the atmosphere. This creates a state of tension and does not allow any one to be at peace there. Similar atmosphere can be seen where drug addicts, liquor addicts and other people join at a place. We will always find a state of tension and nervousness dominating such places. Whatever may be one's personal character, the silent pressure of the surroundings pushes him to participate in the activities. Slowly the ideas get strength and one surrenders himself to the group-consciousness. This is the result of "group-thoughts". Only a few strong minded individuals with great will power can overcome it. But the general rule is that the water added to a flowing water flows along the current. Even a weak minded soldier is forced to be brave in the company of other soldiers. Dance, singing, hearing musical instruments played bring their own sympathetic reactions in the body and minds of the hearers. Where ever there is a function being conducted, a mela being arranged or a festival is being celebrated and crowds gather, a natural impulse arises to participate in the group activities. In an atmosphere of immoral atmosphere man succumbs even though he tries not to, in spite of himself, to the baser instincts. Rarely do we find such people with sturdy determination who do not allow the environment to over power them. When a cyclone hits, every thing is shaken violently and week trees are uprooted. Only strong sturdy trees withstand the cyclonic effect. Rare are those individuals who stand alone with firm self confidence and walk alone on the chosen path of duty and sacrifice without any deviation. But the majority changes their views and attitudes with a small change in the environment. Here and there we find some one who with unflinching determination exerts themselves unceasingly. But majority just flow with the tide. When a war is under progress the atmosphere is so charged that many want to join the army and play their own role in the war, this is the result of group-thinking. Whatever falls in the flowing waters is carried away along with it in the same direction. A cyclone sweeps with it, leaves and dust particles.

It is possible to stop a flow and build dam and give the waters the wanted direction. But it is difficult. To execute difficult acts one requires tremendous talents. Along with it sustained efforts should also follow. The required means and tools also must be gathered. Those who can stop the downward flow of water and build a dam, it is possible for them to use the water which used to flow aimlessly before, into useful channels like generating electricity etc. One who can take up a laborious process flow with their specific talents and bring life to numerous persons by their specific talents and drag all of them in to the chosen path. One courageous man can make many courageous people and a coward can induce his cowardliness to many. The power of thoughts is infinite. It can pull you up, and can also pull you down. Limitless and infinite are the powers of the mind. What is required is to utilize its abilities and put them into action. Man does many acts. Before it comes in a form of action, it first takes the shape of a thought.

Thoughts form when hazy imaginations are modified by intellect (buddhi) so that they become practical. Thoughts have complete supremacy over all the parts of the body. The director pulls the strings of the puppet and it dances according to his tune. The different parts of the body fulfill their appointed activities under the guidance of the mind. This is called the "act", the physical out come of thought. For every good and bad deed we perform, thoughts are responsible, but along with it they influence people who are in the proximity. One or two capable and wise persons pave the way for the standards and future of the whole family. Children are greatly influenced by the thoughts of their guardians and teachers. Children specially, and grownups generally take inspiration from these influences and determine their responsibilities and duties. When people with similar ideology live together, think in one direction and take steps according t the decisions made, it becomes an organization. But unless there is unity in thoughts and also intimacy, it is just a big crowd moving here and there without any aim just as in a "mela". We find such a huge gatherings in platforms, bus stands, railway compartments etc. Many sitting together and many waking hither and thither aimlessly but because they don't have a unity of purpose they are just a 'crowd', but not an organization. They do not help even each other. Even a small group of people having emotional unity and taken identical activity can show miraculous results. It should be remembered that the electrical power of thoughts is not limited only to related persons. But spreads all over the cosmos (Anthariksha). They keep flying all around in the air and whenever they find ground similar to them, they capture it. Even the mineral ores in the earth are developed like that. A group of particles slowly in course of years by their special magnetism get attracted to a specific place and gather similar particles around them and a "mine" is formed. The same is true with 'thoughts'. Whenever and wherever they collect, they form their own group thus different organizations are formed. As they gain experience, their abilities are increased. They envelope many in their folds by their specific effects and a small gathering becomes a huge group. That is how numerous ideologies develop in the world, forming their own sects. If an ideal thinking can envelope the whole 'Antariksha' an environment of unity and equality can easily happen naturally. Such an ideology is what is being brought by the 21st century.
