Pujya Dr. RK - Thought

A man may sit, without doing any work; even then we cannot say he is idle, because his brain will still be functioning. May be what he is thinking is irrelevant, disconnected and haphazard. But these unwanted, irrelevant disconnected thoughts also have their influence. These thoughts create a minor disturbance in the brain, and get absorbed in space (Antariksha).

According to psychologists these thoughts are useless, but leave behind in the brain an unwanted burden. Thinking is certainly a very valuable process. Though thoughts and its activities are not visible, but whatever a man does with his body in the world has roots in this area of mental world. All activities that are visible in world could get their shape, because of these invisible activities in brain. Whatever is done does not happen by itself. Much before that its seeds are sown in the brain. What profit one can gain by doing a particular work? What possible dangers or losses can be expected? What different possibilities can happen? Both possible and impossible alternatives are the first decision makers in the human brain. Those decisions are then synchronized with other ways and means. Only after deep thinking over various pros & cons one arrives at a particular decision. When the brain arrives at a conclusion and the thought turns as a fixed determination, then the time for collecting the requisite items and means and to take active steps to realize the determination comes. No activity can be undertaken until this much of activity first happens in the mind.

The habitual regular routine does not require this process. But the initial first steps to commence an altogether new enterprise cannot be done without the churning of ideas. Even in routine daily work it is essential to use the mind in evaluating loss and gain, good and bad. If not even the routine system will flop in course of time. Those who waste their time and energy in useless activities are scolded and are termed as fools, because they are misusing their abilities. Thereby both labor and time is lost. One is devoid of the profits that can be accrued in that time, utilizing the labor. Similarly misuse of thought-power can be classified as harmful and foolish. And so should it be termed. Wasting the power of action (Kriyasakthi) and misuse of thought-power are actually the two sides of the same mistake.

What should be done so that thought-power be utilized properly and be used in creative enterprises? The solution is offered by the sages to make the thinking process orderly and well planned. In yoga Sadhana, mind control is highly eulogized, concentration and its glories are sung and practice of meditation is advised to increase it. The object of all these practices is not to stop the flow of thoughts or their generation. It is not possible also. It is in the structure of the brain that there will always be a continuous generation of numerous thought waves and this process continues unendingly, and cannot be stopped by any method. The meaning of mind control and organize these thought patterns to improve their nature and quality, so that their aimless and negative, reckless wondering may go, and the power generated be used in a constructive and creative way. This will result in miraculous good results. When the Sun rays falling on a small area of the magnifying glass are centered on a point tremendous heat is developed, and fire also is generated. The same thing applies for thought waves or rays also when they are concentrated on a point or object or desire.

If a habit of thinking seriously for a long time on a chosen theme is developed, astonishing results can be obtained in that direction. Scientists, artists, intellectual scholars, philosophers and thinkers are all just like other common men. But why do they seem so great and different? The only reason is that they concentrate all their thoughts on the chosen and desired goal. If we want to utilize our thought-power in a constructive way, we should observe very minutely whether we are prone or addicted to think in a useless, meaningless and unrelated way. If we find such symptoms immediate steps should be taken to stop the rot. We face numerous problems and worries in our day to day life. If one applies his thought on them in an organized way to reach suitable decisions, and one learns and practices to think logically, keeping all the available facts and proofs for both in favor of the action intended and also against it, very soon such conclusions can be arrived at, which when applied to active life conditions bring astonishing changes and improvements. There are number of aspects in one's life, which can be subjected to concentrated thought-power like, personal problems, improvement of health, acquiring knowledge, family, balancing finances, utilizing time and to plan it properly etc.

Applying concentrated thought-power on individual problems, giving deep thought to various consequences pro or against, better situations and environ can be developed than is at present. Much scope will be found by this type of exercise in conditions where one despaired that there is no way out. Even if the conditions at present are satisfactory there is always a possibility for improvement. By proper and well thought of changes being incorporated vast improvements can be made in daily life. It is not necessary that always one should be ensnared and sticks to personal problems. Development of each family member is also as important as personal development. Many may be the alternatives that suggest it. Many are the social and traditional customs and situations which may be affecting us directly or indirectly. Thought can be bestowed on it and solutions searched. There are many aspects in religious, social, political, philosophic traditions which have to be subjected to rethinking. Changing times ask for appropriate changes in old, set, traditional patterns, setting new values to old customs. How can these be achieved? All can be subjects for using the thought-power. Thus there are numerous aspects and attitudes, which when subjected to concentrated thought, yield good and auspicious results. But all this is possible when the loss due to the habit of unplanned and aimless thinking is thoroughly understood and stopped, and the courageous step of utilizing thought-power for constructive activities be developed.
