Many studies of "thoughts" were undertaken in ancient times, and sages have found that just as sound, heat and light, are potent energies in the field of consciousness thoughts are very potent. Systematic research was undertaken, knowing the value and utility of thought power. An organized method of study (Swadhaya) and group formation (Satsang) was developed. The method of giving lectures (Pravachan) and advising (Paramarsha) and various styles of them were streamlined. Treatises have been written about the good and happy results of "correct way of thinking" and the sorrowful after effects of "negative thinking."

Thoughts clashed with were two great revolutions. One was put forward by Russo, who denounced "King's Rule" and suggested democratic rule. These ideas of Russo hit the world like a cyclone. Soon after Karl Marx presented that the government must be communistic and those thoughts have the support of half of the world population. Not only in the formation of governments, powerful thought waves played dominant roles in moulding the nature and structure of societies. Abolition of slavery, equal rights to women, the fundamental rights of people all were possible because of the tremendous power of thoughts. The workers position in factories is also improving recently because of thoughts. Equality of men and women, abolition of Zamindary (land-lords), were made possible only by the potent power of thoughts.

Co-operative movements turned the tide against land lords and capitalists. The abolition of untouchability is the result of progressive ideas only. Few years back it was supposed that the foundations of development lie on money power, muscle power or weapon power. Now it is an accepted fact that development of personal life depends on the higher or lower nature of man. The society now becomes powerful, not on the basis of the power of their thoughts. Exchange of thoughts has now become the foundation for diplomacy. The weakness or strength of a nation or caste or group depend on the power of their thoughts. Governments come and go only on this basis. Now one who is capable of giving direction to the public opinion is recognized as a powerful and strong man in the real sense. News papers and magazines are now recognized as potential powers, and not just a means of entertainment because of their ability to mould public opinion.

Science has developed because of thoughts. There are numerous branches of science. To perform experiments a large number machines and instruments have been invented. All those are based fundamentally on thoughts. Experiments are performed by using instruments, and those were constructed by using intelligence. Airplanes, satellites, Computers etc are wonders of present day science. But they just did not happen. The rigorous, concentrated and continuous thoughts of humanity made all these possible. One aspect of the science of thought-power is faith. The scientific experiments of this are done through hypnosis. It is now possible to perform a pain free operation by hypnotism. Teeth extraction has utilized this art to a great extent. In magical shows it is used to a very great extent. By capturing the minds of the audience they are made to feel as if seeing certain scenes though they are not actually happening there. The famous rope trick of India, where the magician goes up a rope hanging in air, vanishes, then parts of his body fall on earth, later the magician comes downs the rope intact is the play of hypnotism.

Giant strides have been taken in this direction. This is simple play of mind. In physical and mental therapy it is being put to use. This is only a branch of the "science of Faith". The blessings a Sadhaka obtains from demons, elements (Bhoot), or gods and goddesses are the results of Faith. In nights a coward sees a demon in a shrub. Just by hearing murmuring of leaves many people fall sick and sometime cases of heart failure are also reported. The deep love children have to their guardians, a wife towards the husband, a student to his teacher, the love and affection which children have towards their elders are all expressions of faith. This is shown and expressed as discipline. This is a noble quality. The result of this is good for both parties. If youngsters have faith towards elders, they will do what they say, read with deep reverence and it will touch their hearts. The elders return this with affection. This two way working is the basis of education. This is seen as discipline. In such families the acceptance and receiving goes on simultaneously exchanging co-operation and developing harmonious family relations.

Having faith in great people means being influenced by their lives, to understand their teachings, to follow their directions and taking part in their activities. Indirectly the great people also get help in expanding their mission. More people can be benefited by their teaching. Faith is the best medium to unite people. In friends though they may not be much age difference, deep faith may be generated by the inherent qualities one has. This is of much greater depth than normal friendship. Having faith in ideals means that one is prepared to put them into practice at any cost and live up to the high ideal with active interest. To accept ideals and to believe in their necessity is one thing and having faith in them is different. If one has faith on the principles he believes will not hasten to break them but will follow them even at the cost of laying down his life. If the faith and adherence to ideals is shallow one can not be sure if one can withstand the moment of test. In the field of spiritualism faith is the fundamental basis. If one has faith on a God or Mantra even a simple practice of it will give miraculous result.

In the absence of it even the performance of costly, time consuming rituals will be of no use. In Ramayana, faith is said to be the Mother Parvati and belief is said to be Shiva, and without first installing them in the heart, the god we are attached to (Ista - Devata) will not shower his blessings. This clearly shows that faith is more powerful than the Mantra or Devata. With dedicated mind and efforts, if a work is undertaken with complete faith, involvement and sincerity, it is the surest way to the path of success.
